Will Head Tracking Be in GTA 6? Here's What We Know (and What We're Hoping For)

As the gaming world eagerly awaits the release of GTA 6, one question that keeps popping up in our community is: Will it finally support head tracking out of the box?
GTA V, despite being a massive open-world success and a technical marvel for its time, never offered native support for head tracking. That meant players who wanted to look around while driving, flying, or walking in a more immersive way had to rely on third-party tools — namely, OpenTrack — to map head movements to in-game camera controls. And for that, the TrackHat Sensor V2 paired with TrackHat OpenTrack has been a go-to choice for years, offering precise, wireless head tracking without the faff of clips or reflectors.
But native integration? That’s still a dream.
What’s Possible in GTA 6?
With Rockstar pushing the envelope on realism, immersion, and AI-driven interactions in GTA 6, we believe head tracking should be a natural next step. Imagine looking over your shoulder while speeding down Vice City highways or peeking out from cover without fumbling with thumbsticks. The technology is here — and players are ready for it.
We’re hopeful that Rockstar includes support for common open standards like the FreeTrack protocol, which is already used in hundreds of games across genres. If implemented, it would instantly unlock seamless compatibility with modern devices like the TrackHat Sensor V2, giving players a new layer of immersion without additional mods or mappings.
Until Then, TrackHat's Got You Covered
Even if native support doesn’t make it into launch day, you won’t be left out. The TrackHat Sensor V2, combined with TrackHat OpenTrack, can already deliver a fantastic head tracking experience in GTA V — and we fully expect similar modding tools to make it possible in GTA 6 too.
Whether Rockstar gets there first, or the community does what it always does best — we'll be ready.
